How did Mr. J's come in to being? After a trip to the
Shenandoah Valley from New Jersey, owner Joe Jerlinski
took a suggestion from his cousin to open a bagel shop.
Joe took the idea back to New Jersey to his brother,
David Jerlinski, they talked about it, and in 1990 they
opened the first Mr. J's Bagels and Deli location on East
Market Street in Harrisonburg, VA. Now after 18 years,
there are 3 locations here in Harrisonburg: East Market
St., Rockingham Square - opened in 1998, and the newest
location in Harmony Square, which opened in 2002.

It takes constant monitoring of people and product to run
a successful business like Mr. J's. You need a good,
consistent product as well as the right staff and Mr. J's
has them all. We make close to 5,000 bagels every day, in
addition to party platters, party bagels, and party subs.
Nobody else in the area does exactly what we do, so the
only place to get the best is right here.
